BIMSTEC to suggest measures to world bodies like WTO |

Dhaka-- (UNB) – Commerce ministers of five Southeast Asian countries grouped in an economic bloc, BIMSTEC, began a meeting in Yangon yesterday to strengthen trade and economic cooperation among the member countries. The third such meeting of BIMSEC (Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri lanka and Thailand-Economic Cooperation) was opened by Myanmar’s State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Secretary and BIMSTEC steering committee chairman Khin Nyunt. Bangldesh Commerce Minister Abdul Jalil who is leading a five-member delegation told the meeting that BIMSTEC should be turned into a strong platform to voice the issues of common concern of the member countries and suggest measures to world bodies, particularly WTO. He emphasised the need for implementation of the proposals adopted in last two meetings to survive in the competitive world trade, according to a message received here. |
